This laboratory started functioning in this Institute from the year 1912. The laboratory was a pioneer in the field of Forensic Serology in India. In this laboratory mainly serological works are performed regularly to determine the origin of species of various biological stains and also to determine the blood groups of blood stains in medicolegal exhibits whose origin of species is human. Medicolegal reports (MLR) prepared after analysis of medicolegal cases are sent to Forensic Science Laboratory from where it was received. These medicolegal reports are legal evidence and accepted as expert opinion in criminal cases by the Court of Law.
